Milani Everyday Eyes Must-Have Metallics Review & Swatches

Milani recently released two new Everyday Eyes Palettes in Basic Mattes and Must-Have Metallics ($11).  I purchased them both, since I loved the ones I bought last year during the original release...they're some of the nicest eyeshadows at the drugstore!

So far I've only found these online at but several of you have told me on social media that you've seen them in a new display at Walgreens, so if your local store sells Milani, you can also check there. In my area, it's hard to find Milani at the drugstore so rather than go on the hunt, I decided to just order them online (they arrived in about 4-5 days).

Must-Have Metallics  comes in a gold-colored compact with a clear lid (no mirror), just like the original Everyday Eyes palettes. On the back is a guide for getting both a natural look and a dramatic look using these shade inside. It's made in the U.S.A. and contains .21 oz. of product.
Must-Have Metallics features warm-toned shades in satin, metallic, and matte finishes. There's a satiny champagne shade for highlighting, metallic shades of gold, burnt orange, cranberry and bronze, and then a deep matte black.

The formula of this particular one is definitely the softest and most pigmented from the entire range. Every single shade is super intense, even the satin highlight and matte black. The metallic shades are truly buttery and go on like cream eyeshadows. The gold shade seems to have a different formula from the others, as it's very chunky with tons of almost feels loosely packed. When you apply it with a brush, it goes on very pigmented but rains tiny gold flecks down all over your face. So my favorite way to use it is to just dab it on with my can minimize the fallout that way. The other metallic shades don't create a lot of fallout and go on just as intensely with a brush as they do with a finger...they're amazing.

When I first posted this to my Instagram page, a few people were commenting that it looked similar to the Tarte Pro To Go Palette ($23). So I decided to do some comparison swatches, in case you either have that one already or were thinking about buying it.
While there are some similarities in the tone of the palette, they're actually quite different. The Tarte Pro To Go is a bit more "everyday wearable" than Milani's Must-Have Metallics. The metallic shades aren't as intense and it features three matte shades, versus one. Also, the deepest shade in that palette is a dark brown rather than a black, so overall it has more of a muted look (definitely not a bad thing!). But I have to say, swatching these palettes side-by-side, it was pretty hard to tell which one was drugstore and which one was high-end...they're both so well formulated.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the Milani Everyday Eyes Palette in Must-Have Metallics. The formula is above and beyond other drugstore eyeshadows and it applies beautifully with either a brush or your fingers. It is very intense though, so for me this isn't an everyday palette...I'll probably save it for special occasions, especially in the fall and winter . The shades are perfect for that time of year!

What are your thoughts on this palette? Have you seen it in stores and will you be picking it up?

  1. Their products are my favorite including their blush!

    1. I love them too...they're an awesome drugstore brand because the products can sometimes compete with high-end and they're made in the USA. :)

  2. Wow the colors are so va-va-vroom! Impact, color load, and intensity is magnificent. I would totally buy it, but the colors look kind of hard to wear. I need some inspiration to see how that'll work.

    1. I feel the same way...that's why I can see myself using the Tarte one more. But it's an amazing palette if someone can pull it off!
